Is A Natural Hair Loss Remedy Any Good

Monday, August 18th, 2008

The trouble with using a natural hair loss remedy is that you have no guarantee as to whether they work or not.

Having said that of course you could say that about all hair loss remedies!  The problem is we all have different bodies and what works for one person does not necessarily work for another.

A simple enough natural hair loss remedy to try is to massage your scalp.  The purpose of this is to stimulate blood flow to your hair follicles in the hope that they will see some regeneration.

Start by rubbing the scalp for no longer then couple of minutes a day; you can try doing it with some coconut or palm oil but, if you don’t want to grease your hair, you can just massage the scalp with your fingertips (not nails) with nothing on them.

Of course, if you are feeling more adventurous you can buy one of those electric massagers available in the department stores.

Natural oils like jojoba and palm oil are also known to be great natural hair growth remedy as a pre-shower treatment. All you have to do is massage it gently into the scalp before a shower, leave it in for about 10 – 15 minutes and then wash it out.

Next, try aromatherapy. Mix six drops of lavender and bay essential oil in a base of four ounces of either almond, soy bean or sesame oil; massage the mixture into the scalp and let your scalp soak in it for at least 20 minutes. The scents and herbs have been known to stimulate hair growth.

Items in your kitchen can also be used to whip up a hair rinse. Boil rosemary and sage along with peach leaf, nettle and burdock for the longer then couple of minutes. Clear the water of the herbs and let it cool down after which you can use it to wash your hair. Rosemary and sage have been known to be very effective as a natural hair growth remedy.

Finally, try henna. This is a traditional Indian herb which is used widely by women in India who have or don’t have hair loss problems. It is known to be an effective natural hair growth remedy and conditioner. Keep in mind henna will color your hair slightly red to brick red.

Listed above are just some natural remedies we have come across but if you are interested in using any of them you must do some research online or at a local natural herb store for full explanations of what would be suitable for your individual case.

But do keep in mind that any natural hair growth remedy may well not stimulate your hair growth, as mentioned earlier there are no guarantees.

Some Quirky Hair Loss Remedy Solutions

Friday, July 4th, 2008

If you are looking for a hair loss remedy then you have probably heard of Minoxidil by now.

If so. Then please remember that the first solution you should seek is to visit your doctor, not all hair loss is caused by the aging process.  Consequently effective hair loss remedies will vary with the condition you are suffering from.

hair loss remedy starts with blood testYou may find that you are in need of blood tests or even a scalp biopsy to determine which type of hair loss you’re experiencing.

Not every hair loss remedy is effective, though it has been noted that, unless your hair loss is caught very early on, proprietary hair loss remedies usually do not bring long lasting relief of the symptoms.

In fact, people have been trying to come up with a cure for baldness for centuries, and have found some pretty innovative treatments.

None of these treatments have FDA approval, and none have been tested in large-scale studies. In other words, they may or may not work, as stated before, visit your doctor first, this article is not intended as medical advice, merely information only.

Every home spun hair loss remedy is either taken by mouth or rubbed onto the scalp, you need to be certain that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

Hair Loss Remedy Preparations Taken by Mouth

Drink a glass of any of these remedies each day:

•    Coriander Leaf (cilantro) juice
•    1 tsp apple cider vinegar in water
•    Smoothie of banana, honey, yogurt and skim milk
•    Juice mixture of any of the following: alfalfa, lettuce, fresh spinach, cilantro

Hair Loss Remedy Preparations to Rub on Your Head

Over the centuries, people have massaged these concoctions into their heads to treat baldness:

•    Mix 1 cup mustard oil with 4 tablespoons of henna leaves
•    Use amla oil, either alone or mixed with coconut milk and/or lime juice
•    Mix equal parts of alcohol, borox and quinine.  (Don’t try this one at home—it could give you a pretty good rash)
•    Rub cow dung onto the bald spot  (not in my house…)
•    Mix a chopped onion and 20 birch leaves in a bottle of alcohol.  (It doesn’t say what kind of alcohol…)
•    Grind a bit of licorice and mix with little saffron in skim milk (Do you know how much saffron costs?  And you want to rub it on your head?)
•    Use coconut milk
•    Or aloe vera juice
•    Mix honey and egg yolk and apply to the scalp
•    Rub the bald spot with an onion until it’s red, then rub honey into it
•    Mix castor oil and almond oil, warm it and rub into scalp
•    Grind black peppercorn with either lemon or lime seeds and rub the paste on thinning spots.
•    Put raw mango pulp in a jar of oil and leave it to age for a year, then rub it on your head
•    Make a paste of hot olive oil, honey and cinnamon

In summary, many people continue searching for a hair loss remedy as it is just simply too distressing to watch your hair fall out daily.

If you do not like any of the above so called ‘cures’ then why not review the work of Todd Davis, his all natural, no chemical hair loss remedy is gaining popularity by the day.

Common Hair Loss Medication

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Because most hair loss medication is aimed at inhibiting the enzyme Alpha Reductase they are commonly grouped as ‘Alpha Reductase Inhibitors’.

Reductase is an enzyme that converts testosterone into dehydrotestosterone, or DHT, which is believed by many to be the main cause for hair loss.  We will discuss a little bit about each treatment that falls under this category as a hair loss medication.

Propecia

One type of hair loss medication is Propecia and is the first and only FDA approved hair loss pill in the entire world.  This type of medication works by inhibiting type II reductase in the body.

The good part is that it does bring back hair growth on the top and front of the head, but your hair will also fall back out again if you quit taking this pill.

There is a new drug on the market that is believed by many to be more effective than Propecia.  This is because it inhibits both type one and two reductase, whereas Propecia is only effective with type two.

This new drug is called Avodart.

Anti-Androgens

Other types of hair loss medication include the anti-androgens.  These medications inhibit the male sex hormones in our body and are commonly prescribed for female pattern baldness.  Male patients should exercise caution with this type of hair loss medication.

Aldactone is otherwise known as Spironolactone and is mostly used for women.  The other type of medication for women is known as Diane35.  Men should not use these medications because they will find their sex hormones will lower, and could possibly cause further hair loss.

Proper balancing with hormones between males and females is very important when using a hair loss medication.

Loniten is a hair growth stimulant and contains the same active ingredient as the topical treatments like Rogaine, but they are in oral form.

Arimidex can be used as a hair loss medication because it inhibits the enzyme aromatase, which is responsible for the production of estrogen in our bodies.  This is mainly used by men who are worried about the feminizing effects of Propecia.

There are many different options that are available on the market today that don’t require surgery of any type.  The important part is knowing which sex the drugs exist for and make sure you are taking the correct one.

If you are interested in hair loss medication, you need to make sure you have all the facts before you start to take anything.
