During pregnancy many people will notice numerous changes that occur in the body. While a lot of the changes are expected, not many women are prepared for hair loss after pregnancy. Many know that ‘things’ happen to their hair when they are pregnant. But most don’t know that quite a bit of hair loss happens after pregnancy as well.

In fact, the bulk of the hair loss happens in the first three months after birth. The reason behind this is that, at the time of pregnancy hormones count will be increased. This lends a hand to prevent hair loss in those nine months period. Hormone levels will begin to go back to normal about three months after having a baby.

As the body adjust to hormones returning to normal, you’re bound to lose some hair. This is completely natural. So, there’s no need to panic. Your hair might lose some volume as your hormone levels change, but you hair will be back to normal after a while. It is possible and you will notice that the hair comes back completely; though it may take up to six to twelve months. Don’t worry, this happens to most pregnant women and new mothers. Let’s look at it this way. You didn’t have to pay a thing for the luxurious hair you gained when you were pregnant.

If the hair loss really bothers you, there are ways to deal with it. The first thing you may want to do is check with your doctor to see if your hormone levels are okay. Next, stay away from pigtails, braids and tight hair rollers. Anything that pulls on your hair and gives it stress should be avoided. You should eat lots of vegetables and fruits.  These are food items that contain antioxidants and flavonoids. It helps in preventing hair loss by strengthening hair follicles. Silica and biotin should be part of the ingredients in your shampoo and conditioner.

If your going to use a hair dryer make sure you have it on the lowest possible setting, because when hair is wet it is very fragile which can lead to easily damaging your hair. Also avoid using a fine toothcomb with wet hair as this could lead to more hair loss in the future. Don’t forget your vitamin supplements, especially if you think you’re not getting enough. Make sure that you are taking all of the precautions that you can and you will be a lot better off.

Just keep in mind that you will not be able to stop hair loss after pregnancy completely. Your best option is to protect the hair you have and keep it as strong as you can to decrease the amount you lose. And remember, if everything fails you, it is only a matter of a few months before you have the head of hair that you are used to and you stop noticing the loss of hair after pregnancy.
